The China Biodiversity Observation and Research Network (Sino BON) was launched in 2013 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in accordance with the principle of “scientific planning and unified arrangement”. In 2014, Sino BON was officially accepted as a member network by the Asia-Pacific Biodiversity Observation Network (AP BON) and the Group on Earth Observations Biodiversity Observation Network (GEO BON). The China Biodiversity Observation and Research Network contains 10 thematic networks such as animal diversity, plant diversity and microbial diversity, and one synthesis and data management center. The China Biodiversity Observation and Research Network observes and researches the biodiversity comprehensively systematically from genes, species, populations, communities, ecosystems, landscapes and so on, and aims at realizing medium- and long-term change analysis of the important biota in typical regions of China, providing information services and decision-making supports for the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the protection of biodiversity and biological resources.
